Try a neutral base on your lid. Then, use MAC's satin taupe eye shadow in the crease and blend it out. Use a dark green shadow in the outside corner of the lid and a little in the crease. It is a very neutral look that can be used with brown or black liner and can easily go from day to night.
some royal purple eye shadow and some really dark black eyeliner will be very ostentatious for your eye color.
if you really wanna make your eyecolour

pop try using almay for green eyes eyeshadow

when you put it on take the lightest color and put it on the whole eyelid then take the second darkest color and dab it in the crease or side of your eye

then take the darkest color and just lighty go across the crease of your eye after you are done lighty pat it with some toliet paper so that the lakeup doesnt look to overwhelming
dark brown eyeshadow and green eyeliner that matches your eyes
dark green eyeshadow with an even darker green eyeliner and black mascara would really make your eyes pop
Purples will give you the greatest ';pop'; to your eyecolor. Anytime you cross the color spectrum, giving you a negative-type color, you will make the biggest impression.

I, too, have green eyes and I get a crazy amount of compliments on my eyes when I wear purples. What I do is use a neutral for my highlight under the browbone, a darker purple in the crease and outer corner, and a lighter color purple for the entire lid area. I add either black or an eggplant colored liner to my wetline and the upper lid and instantly the compliments roll in.

If you're looking for inexpensive ways to do this - grab yourself one of those color-selective trays from Almay (it comes with several shades of purple and a neutral to do the entire thing quickly). They specifically taylor those for eye colors and have matching lipsticks and liners that you can use with them, too.

My faves though, personally - are from MAC. I use Entremauve Pigment in the crease, Lovely Lily on the lid, and Shroom Eyeshadow for the highlight with a black liner and mascara.
almay!!!
